The Long Walk

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 8:49 PM

After a week my legs have finally recovered from the strain of the west coast walk...so much more further this time too...deifinitely more than 10km(too and fro)

  • started walking from my place around 4pm,arrived at wcdr 1hr 45 mins later(including the few short breaks)
  • dont think ill be having the same route next time,as the pandan loop area is especially filled with stray dogs(was at the verge of being chased by a few). They were also jus disregarding the traffic. So they can make their way across the busy highway.
  • Thank god that my side of the road was so much more busy, hence they only made it as far as the divider
  • will definetely be taking another route in the future, probably the west coast road

Well wcdr was more of a resting place actually(after the long walk),caesar wasn't too keen running about. And jus walked about a little and was also taking caution not to wander off too far(always checking if i was around)

  • Caesar was surprised that he was out of his leash and was allowed to roam freely...haha
  • He was kinda always nearby with some sorta invisible leash
  • Total difference of behaviour in Caesar unlike when he's on home turf(if people tell me that he such a good and obedient then yes they might be right)
  • Oh yeah someone brought his irish wolfhound to the dog run..wow(never did think that anyone living in sg might own this magnificent dog)

Normally and most defintely will only be having 'The long walk'(as i like to call it) once a month only. Its a good challenge for myself and yes for Caesar(from my understanding small-medium sized breeds are suppose to get the most out of all the different sizes of dogs(up to 8km in a single go!!)Wow .As always,i prefer not tto strain him so i prefer the usual 2+ km walk/sprint.

SAW IV...the prequels...and sequels

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 8:29 PM
'Billy' puppet from the Saw movies

Just caught SAW IV a few days back...not as good as the previous 3 well probably because Jigsaw is no longer part of the game well.Or so thats what the audience is meant to think. For those who think the SAW movies are just another slasher/gory movie have got it all wrong.Well..the Jigsaw killer character is

  • cancer patient who becmoes obesses in teaching people the value of their lives
  • he builds intriguing death traps for his subjects(which are some ho wrelated to their flwed lives and are test or 'games' as he calls them.
  • in these test the jigsaw killer the victims are put under psychological tests and *gulp some self-mutilation.If they get through them then the survive and pass the test.

More on Saw IV

  • Some might realize that the scenes at the end of the movie are actually happening concurrently alongside Saw III

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 10:39 AM

Finally the wait was over...Linkin Park live in Singapore!!

  • After 3 hours of queueing and another hour of wait the show started at 9pm.It was kinda short though i must say only about 1 1/2 hr.Erm...though it will be round 2 hours.
  • But having say that it does come close to the best show that i have seen...first is Slipknots of course.Capturing a live show in the purest form...only hard rock/metal bands are able to,thats what i think..haha.

Their setlist

Westmead Hawk and hisMaddame Tussauds statue

Westmead Hawk...watching his videos and one just but admire k9 atheleticism.

Some facts about the Hawk

  • he is but only one of the four greyhounds to win the greyhound derby 2x(2005,2006)
  • Has a half brother westmead lord(who won the derby in 07') ,and another westmead joe(who has competed alongside as well)
  • Becomes the first animal athlete to make it into Madame Tussauds London
  • Has earaned £250,000 and in his carerr track record
  • Retired from Racing...and functions as breeding sire now
...the hawks pups

*quite curious to know as too how colour of the pups can be roughly attained by different color cross of dams and sires

Breed standards and the SKC 160 & 161st Shows

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 2:53 PM

Was at the SKC dogshow last sunday Caesars first too...not to say that he took part, though but someone did ask me..."Is your dog taking part?" I was "Huh? No hes just a pet"Oh yes btw did some reserce and got a book on greyhounds and found out that actually they ar easily 2 from of breed standards for greyhounds...

  • one of which has a flat topline and a rather long body, smaller and more lean in size aka racy line which is more recognized by the NGa(national Greyhound association)

  • the larger version which is more applied to show dogs ar elarger in size and ten dto a have more curves

Well enough about that back to the show...Caesar didnt puke though in the van think he doe so much better without the carrier as he's able to 'negotiate' with the car..haha.

  • we arrived around 215pm and went in..was kinda dissapointed that it was only a half size as compared to the AKC show that was shown there 3 months earlier.

  • Not much to buy either(*sheesh still looking for a martingale collar).Got some canned food and a pack of dry food.Won a large a cannister at the instant lucky draw to.

  • There were some recongnizable whippets at the show this time around an dmuch larger too!!

  • Ceasar stands and weighs at the breed minumum...i believe a comparison of show and nonshow whippets are quite similar.

  • The show was just a so so thing...less hounds this time around.Only one afghan *sigh.

  • Some interesting dogs i saw at the show..St Bernard,Chinses Crested(both versions),Doberman

  • Oh yes i intend to get an FZ 18 by the nezt show..which i believe is and akc show.

Ring Side Manners

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 11:46 AM
With tomorrow being the 160th and 161st SKC Champion...did a little read and extracted some infro from DFS regarding ringside manners

Things to know while at a show:

Ask Permission Before You Touch/Pet A Dog
Don't touch or pet a dog without asking permission, ask for permission from the handlers or owners. Be prepared to accept a "No" answer, due to the grooming work involved and some exhibitors and dogs need mental focus time. Each exhibitor and dog is different, some do allow. Do not attempt to pet a dog that is resting in a crate.

Children
If you bring children, keep them under close supervision. Do not let them hang on the ring dividers. Make sure their hands are clean before touching the dogs (especially those dogs on the obedience trial).

Non Exhibiting Dogs
Here in Singapore, our kennel club allows non exhibiting dogs into the show. In some countries, this is not allowed.Do ensure the dogs are leashed up all the time, you would not want to end up chasing for your dogs in a dog show. Personally I seen this incident before and I wonder what is going to happen if the dog runs into the show ring. Keep your dog's toy away if possible. I was approached by a ring official to stop the the squeeky toy of a ring side spectator.Keep "on heat" bitches at home. This will be one of the most distracting factor for all male dogs. Instinct at work.Clean up the pee & poo of your dog if they have done mistake, best is to clear them before entering into the exhibition hall.

Show Schedule
The show schedule that list the estimated time for the events published by the local kennel club, do check them out then if you are interested in a certain event. Do not complain about delays, as this is a dog event where judges may need more time.

Bench Area
At a dog show, there are allocated area for exhibitors and their dogs (most of the time, local is free and easy). They set up tables, grooming equipments, crates and their personal belongings. Before their ring time, the exhibitors gather around this area to prepare their dogs. It may seems they are putting the dogs there for your viewing pleasure, but frankly, it is not really that.Try not to crowd into this area, or bring your dogs into the exhibitor's bench area. Dog shows are usually crowded and many people over look the fact that exhibitors may have limited time to move from one ring to another, prepare, groom or warm up the dogs. Please be courteous and try to make way for exhibitors.

Understand The Exhibitors
Exhibitors may be busy before their ring time. When approaching an exhibitor to chat, ask if it’s a good time. If it isn’t, you can ask to meet with them later in the day or request contact information to call on them at a later date. Understand that some exhibitors may be "dog-tired" after long hours of preparation or grooming dogs. They have lots of time and money invested for those few minutes in the ring. Like everything else in life, there are good and bad sports among exhibitors.

Find A Breeder?
If you are hoping to spot a breeder, you may have to understand that showing does not make a breeder ethical.

Bad Mouth
Please do not bad mouth any dog in the ring. You never know if the breeder, trainer, owners, etc. is standing near-by! (If you think you are good and better, prove it in the ring.)

Photographs
If you wish to take a photo of a nice looking dog at the bench area, please ask for permission. If you think taking photo from the ring side, please turn off the flash lights and stop distracting the dogs in the rings. If you are thinking to publish those dogs's photo, please seek permission from the exhibitors. It is sensitive

Poor man's Greyhound & Rich man's porcelain figure

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 10:15 AM
Just came to know of a term Dog snobbery...erm not really kind of known of this already. What does it mean....and why so?
  • some people believe purebreeds are considered real dogs and the rest?well probably mutants

  • Others think that only much bigger dogs can be considerd dogs...does this mean smaller dogs are for the less fortunatre and less well off.Hmmm...having said this.Does this also point out the fact the owners are using their dogs as item of social status.Crap?!!

  • And what about dogs who are purebreeds but comparisions are made,as they are mearly pet and not show standard.Which brings me to another question...whippets are 'poor man's greyhounds' or rich man's porcelain figures??

Whippet racing(checkout the kick start)

West Coast Walk

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 12:22 AM
Super obedience is a rarity

7.5-10kg

Extremely exhausted just came from a 5km x2 walk to west coast and back...(Mum was like west coast??that's far isnt't it)

  • Well no jus make a 2 left turns from jurong town hall road in to west coast highway
did want to go half way intially but he was rather up in tempo and well im not sure when im able to take him on a long walk again
  • Ceasar was kinda exhausted i must say,but nothing compared to when we went for the ulu pandan/clementi walk.Probably he was running quite a bit too then.
  • Today was more of a brisk walk with zero short burst of sprint.
  • Once evry week or 2 weeks i take for the longer journeys...in actual fact they are actualli walks rather than runs.Probably he enjoys them more .
  • His hind leg muscles are pretty solid from all the walking/running indoors an doutdoors..haha.
  • He's gained quite abit too from when he 1st arrived with us from 7.5kg to 10 kg now
doesnt look so skeletal i must say(talking about that the little ig at holland V is still there,6mths of age now.Lookingh like a min pin x chihuahua)

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 9:36 PM

  • Seether,Submersed and Alter Bridge have finally released their new albums...and all in october!!Am still waiting to here from 12 stones and puddle of mudd's latest offerings..and probably Fuel(hmmm...wonder if their new lead vocals will be able to match up to previous).Well it's great thing too that Chris Daughtry decided to strike out on his on and create his own identity.
  • Back to the albums...alter bridge's album is of cos the best amongst the three.Comparable to their last album.Rise Today and Brand New Start are the obvious favourites, definetely for anyone.
  • Have tried the two songs on acoustic...a bit tough probably will sound better on the eletric guitar(my ibanez is a kinda thrashy now need to have some servicing and bridge aligment done.Seems to have some sort of a masked sound...waiting for 13 mth bonus 1st then .haha)

Blessing of Pets and Animal Fair @ St Mary's

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 10:39 PM
St marys seems to be the only Catholic church in sg that practices the blessing of pets they are a few christian churches that carry out these observences. Why This so at ctaholic churces is because it celebrates the feast of st francis on this particular day(the patron saint of animals and the environment). It was really a long walk...and it felt longer walking jus a midday actually(well it was about 4 km) Got Caesar tagged with a microchip as well.

Tagging is painless(imagine a needle sized with a diameter to fit a 'rice grain' thr

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 8:30 PM

(Caesar in his number 2 Race jacket)

Last Saturday was little caesars birthday His First too

  • it was weird with evryone asking why he was putting a number 2 instead a 1

  • And i always have to give them the answer that "Oh had it made wrongly,as number 1 is actually a red jersey as used by in whippet and greyhound racing"

  • Probably ill get him a '1' on the upcoming dogshow at the expo,or this coming fall at Xmas.

Hmm..yummy bday cake.Well he was unable to take a bite out of it though
