Leong San See Temple

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 10:39 PM

Leong San See Temple (Dragon Mountain Gate Temple) is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Singapore. It was established in 1913 by a monk, Reverend Chun Wu, who came to Singapore from Fujian, China. Originally Leong San See Temple was located in An Ping District of the Fujian Province, China. He had brought along with him a statue of Bodhisattva Kuan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) .As such Kuan Yin is one of the main deities worshipped in this temple with and altar setup for her.

Was surprised to find a few buddhist temples within the vincity of race course road about 3 or 4 at least...will probably return another day to get more shots of the other temples

Sultan Mosque

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 9:11 PM

Sultan Mosque Muscat Street and North Bridge Road within the Kampong Glamm district of Rochor Planning Area in Singapore. Its most distinct features are its prayer hall and domes.Somewhat across between the blue mosque and the Taj Mahal so to speak.
  • In 1924, the year of the mosque's centenary, the erection of the new mosque was put in place.Within the walls of the current i did manage to see some odle pcis of a rather pyramid shaped mosque which depicted th older design.
  • The newer and more Saracenic style mosque was completed after four years in 1928.It has remained relativel unchanged since then, with only repairs carried out to the main hall in the 1960s(i believe this was sometime after the second world war).
  • A tour guide generously showed me a picture of the mosque and and a part that was damaged at that time.Amazingly only the wash area was damaged, amidst the heaving bombings during that time.

Hindu Temples @ Serangoon

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 11:01 AM

Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple or Sri Perumal Temple is one of the oldest temples in
Singapore. It is located in Little India on Serangoon Road.Interesting fact
  • This large complex, dedicated to Vishnu, dates from 1855
  • The 20-metres-tall Gopuram is a relatively recent addition, built in 1966 at a cost of S$300,000.

I will be looking forward to taking more shots of this temple as its the starting point for devotees during the annual Thaipusam festival. This temple is the strating point of the festival ,after which devotees will make their way to the Chettiar Hindu Temple on Tank Road.

The 2nd temple at serangon that i visited probaly the one im more interested in as its much smaller hence able to get better detailed shots is Sri Vadapathira Kaliamman Temple.
  • It was built 20th century the Tamil Hindus of Potong Pasir under the leadership of Rengasamy Murier, Murugaiyan, Samiappan and Vairappan Thevar built a small but as a Temple in Upper Serangoon Raod
  • It was then handed to B. Govindasamy Chettiar, the pioneer labour contractor to the Port of Singapore to manage the Temple.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 9:51 PM

Finally got a 50mm f/1.8 .Its nikon chepest prime,at about SGD$170.I much prefer this i guess as compared to my previous Sigma f/1.4.Guess am more comfortable using a Nikon and well 1.4 is a bit of a tricky lense to use with such a shallow of depth of field. Most tend to dislike the range of a 50mm i guess as its 75 mm when coupled with a dx cropped sensor. But what can i say,i prefer a more tele look on my shots.

Fender Standard Telecaster & VOX Pathfinder 10

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 8:49 PM

The Fender Telecaster, colloquially known as the Tele is a dual-pickup, solid-body electric guitar made by Fender. Its simple yet effective design and revolutionary sound broke ground and set trends in electric guitar manufacturing and popular music. Introduced for national distribution as the Broadcaster in the autumn of 1950, it was the first guitar of its kind to be produced on a substantial scale. Its commercial production can be traced as far back as the spring of 1950, when the single- and dual-pickup Esquire models were first sold. The Telecaster has been in continuous production in one form or another since its first incarnation, making it the world's oldest solid-body electric guitar.

Finally got my first fender and pretty much decided on a telecaster as my favourite guitar players are tele players..namely...John 5(Rob Zombie),Jim Root(Stone Sour/Slipknot) and Prince. It was a rather good buy i should say,got it for SGD $799 as compared to the retail of about SGD $1.2k.The Standard model or (Made in Mexico) model comes in a maple fretboard and alder body.Perfect for recreating bright chord sounds

Got a vox pathfinder 10 as well during the year end sales period, which paired up nicely with the tele.Would have have gotten a larger amp though of higher wattage but am saving up,as i would like to get some effects in the near future.
Love the classic VOX look which includes basket-weave, leather-look vinyl, distinctive diamond grille cloth and of course, chicken head knobs!
And now with the tele they both not only sound but look great in my room as well.

A Day @ The Istana

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 6:28 PM

The Istana is the official residence and office of the President of Singapore. It is where the president receives and entertains state guests. It is located within a large open compound in the otherwise urbanised setting of the Orchard Road area.

The Istana building and its grounds are open to the public, on five selected statutory holidays — Lunar New Year, Deepavali, Hari Raya Puasa, Labour Day and National Day. Due to the closeness of Deepavali and Hari Raya Puasa in some years, the grounds of the Istana are sometimes open only once during this time period in commemoration of both public holidays .
