Obin(est.1828)

Pulau Ubin is a small island (10.19 km²) situated in the north east of Singapore, to the west of Pulau Tekong. Granite quarrying supported a few thousand settlers on Pulau Ubin in the 1960s, but only about a hundred villagers live there today. It is one of the last rural areas to be found in Singapore.

Home(Part 1)

Was utterly suprised that after more than 15 years the grounds of Hillview still remain vacant and clear of any highrised condos or local supermarkets and stores.Am seriously wondering why was the decision made so early on to clear the land of the old hdb blocks and lowrised british quarters.Nonetherless still many glimpses of the former of the ode hillview can still be seen today...but for how long.
As the Bukit Timah KTM railway wasnt too far off from my grandma's old place decide to take some shots off it as well.Located jus opposite the former Yeo's factory at Bt Timah and also a short distance from Ngee Ann the familiar sights were definitely to be included into the home series...Part 1

Nikon 24mm f2.8 AFD

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 1:40 AM

Nikon's 24mm 2.8 af-d is one of nikon's older primes and still in production(probably due for an upgrade soon with a swm version perhaps). The lens was made in 1993 by nikon japan. It performs fairly ok on digital bodies i guess have seen some better shots on fm film camera's and not really optimized for digital.

That being said the major plus points are
  • its small in size
  • generally fast focusing(on d90 body)
  • has an angle of 36mm on a cropped sensor(adequate sensor adn wider than that on a kit-lens when used on a film body)
  • great for film users due to aperature ring

The cons are

  • its max aperature is on f/2.8 as compared to some other canon and sigma variations with a maximum aperature of f/1.8
  • still relatively expensive at about $570 SGD
  • af only no af-s function to cater for models like d40,d60 and d5000

Generally the lens is great for a walk about as its closer to a traditional 35mm angle of view.Wide but note to wide to create excessive exaggeration in shots. Its great team to mh af 50mm f/1.8d.Was considering the new af-s 35mm,but for now i dont really see the need and how that lens wil fit in between these 2.What next?Af-s 85mm?Well im hoping for a 1.8 version rather than a 1.4 version as that would probaly cost close to a 2k region!

The Feast of Saint Joseph

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 4:37 PM

Saint Joseph (Hebrew יוֹסֵף, also known as Joseph of the House of David, Joseph the Betrothed, Joseph of Nazareth, Joseph the Worker and other titles) is known from the New Testament as the husband of Mary, mother of Jesus and although according to Christian tradition he was not the biological father of Jesus, he acted as his foster-father and as head of the Holy Family. Joseph is venerated as a saint within the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Anglican Churches.
The genealogy in the Gospel of Matthew says that Joseph's father was called Jacob; but according to the genealogy in the Gospel of Luke, Joseph was a son of Heli. The canonical Gospels, however, give neither date and place of Joseph's birth nor of his death. All that is known from them is that Joseph lived at times in Nazareth in Galilee, stayed for a couple of years in Bethlehem in Judea, and was forced into exile for a time in Egypt. The Feast of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary honors the foster-father of Jesus, St. Joseph. He is the patron saint of fathers, families, workers, and the Church. His main feast falls on March 19. The feast of St. Joseph the Worker falls on May 1.
