Wildlife lens

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 12:53 PM
Heavy dilemma now its either i get a 55-200 VR or 70-300 VRII
  • The later seems more attracting because of the reach and also becasu eof teh VR II function(which is so very vital in the usage of long range lenses)
  • The thing is ..it costs more than 2x the price of a 55-200($350),70-300($880)
  • Ill be getting either come april...more wildlife shoots to be done

70-300 Vs 55-200

Greek Masterpieces from Louvre

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 12:21 PM

  • Nike (shown here with wings)

    Nike
  • Was a goddess who personified triumph throughout the ages of the ancient Greek culture.
  • Nike and her siblings all became described as attendants of Zeus when his cult gained the position of the dominant deity
  • Nike is seen with wings in most statues and paintings. Most other winged deities in the Greek pantheon had shed their wings by Classical times.

    Athena.
    Goddess of heroic endeavour.

    Athena
  • is the shrewd companion of heroes and the Goddess of heroic endeavour.
  • Classically, Athena is portrayed wearing full armor, with her helmet raised high on the forehead to reveal her face in the gesture of peaceful greeting.
  • Athena was the godess that changed Medusa's form to match that of her sister Gorgons as punishment.(Upon discovering the desecration of her temple). Medusa's hair turned into snakes, her lower body was transformed also, and meeting her gaze would turn any living creature to stone.

Apollo(God of light and sun);Aphrodite(Greek goddess of love, lust, and beauty);Ares(Olympian god of warfare)

Long-Tailed Macaque(Crab-eating Macaque)

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 1:09 PM

After about close 2 hours of hike(at Bukit tImah nature reserve) came upon a group of long-tailed macaques
  • these perhaps are the common species seen in an around the catchment areas
  • their a little more friendly i should say...and perhaps often remained unhinged with human presence
  • well as always its not good to feed the monkeys, due to this the just remain where there are and never attack any passerby for food
  • the forest has more than enough food for them

More about the long-tailed macaques

  • Sir Stamford Raffles who gave the animal its scientific name in 1821, did not specify what he meant by the use of this word although it is presumed it had something to do with his observation of the animal's colour
  • They are the third largest range of any primate species
  • They can found in a wide variety of habitats, including primary lowland rainforest disturbed and secondary rainforests, and riverine and coastal forests of nipa palm and mangroves
  • Normally they are in groups with 5 or more(yet to see more than 6 or so in a single group)

Hope to see the banded-leaf monkeys soon...there are about 20 leaft in the central catchment area

Was it a better show this time around?

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 11:54 PM

was i a better show this time around..

  • have got a better oppurtunity to have a chat with dog owners show and pet dog owners
  • more stalls to browse and view

with regards to the show itself...

  • not so good turn out...hmm i right to say that, well as compared to the one last august(but that was one on a larger scale(asian champions included)
  • left me with a big impact that one...as it was a first time back then for attending a dogshow
  • why did they have to leav ethe sighthounds group for the last...almost didnt catch any part of it.As it was already 6pm any i had to leave
  • *sheesh i dont even know the outcome of the show(my normally timing as of late is from about 2-6pm for attending the shows, not such along time i think as Caesar is bound to get all restless and stuff in the hall)
  • Hmmm...am kinda wondering whens the next show(they'll usually have an announcement as to when the upcoming one is going to take place

Greyhound/Whippet Inventory

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 9:33 PM

Martingale/Safety collar/Limit slip collar

  • designed for dogs whose necks are larger than their heads (like greyhounds and whippets); also used by terrier, working dog, and other breeds due to gentle control of a martingale collar over a choke chain
  • The collar is fitted to the exact size of the dog's neck when the collar is in the closed position. The collar will be comfortably loose when not in use when adequate loosened.
  • When is pulled, the collar should be very snug
  • Safe to wear everyday,on long walks and jogs
  • Also can be used in training as an alterative to a choke chain

Greyhound Abuse

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 9:36 PM

How much is this video then...I'm pretty sure that many are also treated with care.Animal athleticism should be admired for what it is.Would love to catch a race someday. But i would never bet to promote the 'sport'

The future seems much better for the greyhound with adoption groups doing a lot to get the dogs re homed(too bad there's none in sg...ill definitely have at least 2 a brindle and black)

FAST FACTs

  • greyhound's career will end by the time its is 4-6 years of age(though they re younger ones 2-3 years being put up for adoption, probably due to injury)
  • Theres a large number of dogs involved in greyhound racing and so sadly only a handful are kept as family pets after retirement
  • Race tracks have now established their own adoption programs at various tracks
  • In the UK the dogs are not kept at the tracks but are located at kennels of private individuals(trainers)
  • Mainly in the Scandinavian states greyhound racing is carried out by the owners of the dogs without financial interest(truly admiring animal athleticism for what it is!!)

Posted by Frois-Naidu on 8:27 PM

  • Next Sunday is SKC's Inaugural FCI CACIB Show ...quite a few things going.

  • Championship show
  • Obedience,Novice,Agility,Jumpers Trials and Companion Dog Show

Will bring Caesar too,for a stroll.Always hope they ll be some good accessories like collars and leashes and maybe outfits. But alas no..only lots of dogs foods and toys.Kinda waiting for the Asian championships though and they ll be more to see really enjoyed the turn out the last time around. It occupied the whole hall as well wow.It was my first time going to a dog show.It always nice really to catch the pretty side of the shows.

  • Oh yes so many were present there as well...brindle,brown,light white brown...
  • Hmmm...though Caesar was around the same size as them though...but hes on the smaller end...haha.(Not sure if he recalls seeing his on kind??)

So far Caesar's got 3 custom racing jackets...would like to get the legendary 'black 4' made for him(just like westmead hawk!!Greyhound extraordinaire)

Need to get some designs of martingales and try to customize a few for him.Ill reckon hell look pretty smart and all with a number 4 on his side and a leather martingale
